Meet the Expert Lecturers:

Prof. dr. Jovan Andonovski
Biography Jovan Andonovski was born in 1980 in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. He earned his law degree from the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus” in Skopje. In 2001, he specialized in International Law at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Republic of Poland. He obtained his Master’s degree from the Faculty of Law “Iustinianus Primus” in 2010, where he later earned his PhD in Roman Law in 2015. Additionally, in 2023, he specialized in Regulatory Compliance at Penn University, USA. From 1999 to 2002, he worked in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia on a project by the National Democratic Institute. Between 2003 and 2006, he worked as a law clerk, and in the same year was appointed Deputy Director of the Central Registry of the Republic of Macedonia. From 2007 to 2009, he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a department head and as First Secretary at the Macedonian Embassy in Vienna, Austria. From 2009 to 2014, he was State Secretary at the Secretariat for European Affairs, where he also served as a State Counselor. In 2015, he was elected Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law at the University “Goce Delchev” in Štip, and in 2020, he was promoted to Associate Professor. From October 2016 until October 2024, he served as Deputy Ombudsman. He has been a scholarship recipient of the “Queen Jadwiga” Foundation in Poland and the “Konrad Adenauer” Foundation in the Federal Republic of Germany. He speaks English, German, and Polish. He is the author of numerous professional and academic publications and legal works published both domestically and internationally.

M.A. Irena Bachanovic Karakashev
Biography Irena Bacanovic Karakashev is a professional holding dual LL.M. degree – one in the field of business and administration from the Faculty of Economics, University Ss Cyril and Methodius, Skopje, Macedonia, and other in the field of law and economics through the prestigious ERASMUS Master Program (via Universität Hamburg, Università degli Studi di Bologna and Université Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III) With over fifteen years of banking experience in compliance management, she is an internationally certified compliance expert specializing in compliance management, digitalization, ESG and green sustainability initiatives, corporate governance, ethics, and integrity. Her expertise as a trainer covers compliance, data protection, ethics, integrity, and corporate governance, equipping professionals with essential and advanced skills to navigate complex regulatory landscapes. In the role of a representative of a financial institution, Irena is a former member of expert bodies (Legal, Compliance, and Information Security committees) part of the Macedonian Banking Association, and an active promoter of the compliance function as a significant control function, in good corporate governance. Trainer on ISO standards for compliance management, anti-corruption, anti-bribery, and legal aspects in information security and data protection. An active member of Technical Committee 9 Management of Quality, environment, and Risks as part of the Institute for Certification of Macedonia (observer in the international body for ISO standards drafting in this field). Expertise in project management funded by international organizations.
